What is 'Dragonfly Play & Learn'?
'Dragonfly Play & Learn' is a long day care centre providing education and care for children aged 2 to 5 years, located in the suburb of Leanyer. With a maximum capacity of 16 children, we provide a unique early childhood environment that is nurturing, child centred and individualised. Our program places a strong emphasis on outdoor learning, encouraging children to connect with nature, engage in active exploration, and develop a sense of curiosity, wellbeing and respect for the natural world.
As a team of early learning practitioners, we view our roles at 'Dragonfly Play & Learn' as facilitators of exploration, discovery, creativity and relationships. Our educators are experienced and share a strong philosophical understanding of childhood development and learning.
Butterfly Group, children aged 3.5 to 5 years old.
Our preschool program begins at 9:00am and is integrated into the long day care program. All preschool children are enrolled for the full day, from 7:00am to 5:15pm.
Play is central to how children learn. Through purposeful play experiences, children explore concepts, test ideas, develop skills and build relationships. Play supports critical thinking, creativity and independence, helping children develop the capabilities they need for both learning and life.
Our educators work alongside children as partners in the learning process, guiding, supporting and extending their thinking through intentional teaching. Our preschool program is shaped by children’s interests, informed by observation and reflection, and strengthened through ongoing collaboration with families.
Literacy and numeracy are intentionally embedded into everyday experiences and routines, allowing children to develop these skills in meaningful, practical ways that support confidence and readiness for school. The learning journey of each child is mapped against the Early Years Learning Framework through a cycle of observation, analysis, planning, implementation and reflection.
At ‘Dragonfly Play & Learn’ children become leaders, self directed learners and strong decision makers. Children are afforded both freedom and responsibility, supported by educators focused on growing emotional intelligence and a sense of nurturing.
Caterpillar Group, children aged 2 years to 3.5 years
7:00am to 5:15pm
At Dragonfly Play & Learn, our program for the Caterpillar Group children is guided by their interests, strengths and developmental needs. Educators carefully observe each child and plan learning experiences that support curiosity, communication, independence and a sense of belonging. As children grow and develop, their learning progress is linked to the Early Years Learning Framework and documented through the Storypark platform, allowing families to stay informed and involved.
Throughout the day, children from both the Caterpillar and Butterfly groups spend time learning and playing together. These mixed age experiences support younger children to learn through observation and imitation, while older children develop leadership, empathy and confidence. This approach strengthens relationships, builds a strong sense of community, and reflects the natural social groupings children experience in family and community life.
